Licensing Developer
License
A Developer Kit provides a developer license,
documentation, samples and example programs and 30 days email tech support, but no server license. The Developer Kit enables you to
develop and market dbOvernet-enabled products, without incurring the additional cost of a
server license.
- Through the Developer Kit, a licensed developer can develop,
test and demonstrate both client- and server-side applications, but not deploy them for
live, operational use except against licensed servers.
- A licensed developer has the right to
develop, test and demonstrate applications on their own machines.
- A licensed developer can simulate applications for
development and testing purposes by running the server-side executable(s) on one computer
and client application(s) on one or more other computers, provided those other computers
are the property of the developer.
- One license serves for all the developers in a company at
one physical location, provided they access the dbOvernet Developer Kit over a network,
from a single server. Any demonstrations must not use operational or live databases.
- Developers can demonstrate dbOvernet-enabled
applications off-premise on a standalone, unnetworked computer, where both the client- and
server-side applications are resident on that computer, or from a networked computer
located anywhere in the world, where the network is the Internet, and the client-side
applications access demonstration databases at the developer's premises.
This
lets developers set up server-side databases on their own computers that demonstrate the
effectiveness of their client-side applications by connecting users over the Internet.
Server License -
unlimited access to a
single server
A server license is required for any server
executing one or more deployed server-side applications.
For the most part, any one
business would probably require only one server license, assuming the
dbOvernet server-side applications reside on one computer. Licenses are based on
server-side computers, not users. There is no limit to the number of users that can
access a server-side computer and there is no limit on the number of server-side
applications running on a single computer.
A server-side
application is one that accesses databases and delivers datasets to connected clients.
A connected client is an application being executed from a computer other than the one
executing the server-side application.
- Each server computer that executes one or more server-side
application(s) responding to requests from a connected client requires one single server
license.
- There is NO licensing fee for client-side applications.
- There is NO licensing fee for a standalone computer where
both the client and server sides are executing on the machine.
- A server may multi-host and execute more than one
server-side application at a time without an additional license fee.
- A server may serve any number of LANs or other networks, or
intranets/Internets and any number of users at one time with the one license.
Special licensing
We can provide special
licensing for specific projects, retail and vertical market applications, or
large-scale corporate implementations, on a case-by-case
basis.
