What is dbOvernet?

Connecting remote desktop applications to corporate databases - over the Internet

dbOvernet is the first complete, commercial release of multi-tier rapid application development tools at practical prices.

dbOvernet is all about multi-tier, real-time, full-blown database communication over any carrier: local LAN, WAN or inter/intra/extranets (what we call overnets), thin clients and RAD development.

dbOvernet is literally databases over networks - any kind of network, including the Internet.

Database connectivity anywhere

dbOvernet's technology provides multi-tier database connectivity and communication (real-time, bi-directional, updateable, transaction-based data packet delivery) over LAN, WAN, intranet, extranet and internet carriers, or on standalone computers.

Through dbOvernet, businesses can implement enterprise-wide database solutions without regard to the host carrier, including complete intranet functionality and extranet capabilities like preferred customer and alliance partner database access.

Remote users become connected users and connected users can become remote users.

Thin client technology

dbOvernet embraces thin-client concepts. Typical single form applications compile to less than 600k. Or, you can use a "download once" runtime library of about 1.5MB to reduce that size to less than 100k, with many quick applications in the 20k to 60k range. They load immediately over any host, making download and updates from the net a reality.

True multi-tier

Unlike all competitors except MIDAS, dbOvernet is a true multi-tier product. The critical element in this architecture is the middle tier - the middle layer, where business and validation rules, pre-processing functions, remote procedure calls, callback and other actions take place.

Have a look at our Architecture page for more information.

Since they don't have a true, open middle layer, other products are simply client/server structures with a socket transmission in between. They significantly hamper development and make the developer reliant on the software manufacturer for specific features.

With dbOvernet's completely open and fully programmable architecture, you are never caught waiting for new features or improvements.

dbOvernet provides a ServerObject class in the middle layer, along with an open Application Server and Object Request Broker. Through these, developers can add any code to do any function.

With dbOvernet, we provide you with dozens of real-world examples of the middle layer in action. We also provide a complete, open remote procedure model to allow you to enable any business rules, from pre-processing rules like OnBeforePost to post-processing functions like record refresh and autoincrement callback.

Have a look at our Features page to see many of the possibilities.

Since the dbOvernet architecture is completely open, you never have to wait for us to provide functionality through version releases.

RAD development

Designed to run under TCP/IP protocol, dbOvernet offers RAD ease-of-use through its visual components. This exciting product allows developers, designers and businesses to develop far beyond the traditional client/server approach. Whole new, untapped markets await dbOvernetters. Have a look here. Domino-type intranet solutions are an affordable reality, as is software leasing over the internet. dbOvernet opens new worlds of new opportunities.

The thin client examples on this site demonstrate this new world, and suggest dozens of ways to take advantage of this exciting technology.

For intranet and internet webs, dbOvernet's straight-forward and familiar design environment eliminates the complexity and confusion found in typical solutions like CGI, ISAPI, DHTML, ASP and ActiveX. dbOvernet's multi-tier architecture, drop-and-go component technology, ease-of-use and low cost enables designers and businesses to implement solutions more quickly and for a fraction of the cost of solutions provided through other multi-tier products.
